International flights to Nicaragua land at Sandino International Airport in Managu; Mukul is only a scenic 120-minute ride away from the airport. Staff can arrange a personal resort butler to greet you at the airplane, to assist with luggage and customs paperwork, and drive you to Mukul via luxury coach. Private helicopter commutes from airport to resort are also available – getting you to Mukul in a brisk 25 minutes while soaring over the Emerald Coast’s dynamic landscape.

A luxury boutique hotel and spa in Guacalito de la Isla which opened February 2013. Mukul is the Mayan word for secret or hidden and according to the legendary Pellas family, Mukul is much like a hidden jewel tucked away in the middle of paradise. Offering 37 spacious accommodations, each with an oceanview, pool and private staff. The resort features Spa Mukul with six private treatment casitas, beach clue with dining and lounge areas, a swimming pool and an 18-hole golf course. Guests enjoy access to the property's four miles of white-sand beach and rugged coastline, nature trails to hike or bike and observe the four species of monkeys and other wildlife.

Home Description

Casona Don Carlos is the Pellas family’s private beach residence and the crown jewel of Nicaragua's Emerald Coast. Located adjacent to the Beach Villas, the oceanfront compound features a 20,000 square-foot indoor-outdoor living area with soaring 80-foot-high palapa ceilings, six bedroom suites, a wrap-around stone terrace and a large private swimming pool. Casona Don Carlos may be booked by guests as one accommodation.

Room Details

Each of the 37 guest accommodations offers space and privacy in a style that fully embodies and compliments the natural surroundings. Enjoy spectacular views of the ocean, craft furnishings and decorations, carved native teak tables, sugarcane twig headboards and rum barrel staves.
Bohios are perfectly placed 300 feet above the Playa Manzanillo, nestled like tree houses in the lush rainforest canopy, these 621 square-foot houses offer solace, privacy and luxury while remaining uniquely Nicaraguan. Built of sustainable native teak and pine, each of the 23 Bohios feature floor-to-ceiling glass perfectly framing the sapphire sea below. A sliding glass door leads onto a sweeping wooden deck with a private plunge pool and separate lounging veranda with custom daybed. The spacious bathroom is surfaced in Nicaraguan travertine marble and includes a wet room, double vanity, spacious walk-in closet and double-headed shower. The furniture, fabrics and lighting fixtures also lend to the authentic feel of a posh sanctuary handcrafted in a refined local style.

Villa Description

Beach Villas were built to pay tribute to the tropical, rolling surf of Playa Manzanillo. Above the entry vestibule hangs a chandelier made from custom-designed mussel sells. Bathrooms include separate his and hers vanity rooms, one facing a palatial garden, the other facing the ocean, both with a Liquid Temple filled monsoon showers and soaking tubs. Outside, each of the 12 Beach Villas includes a wrap-around deck, private swimming pool, outdoor lounging palapa and a secret garden with an outdoor shower. For added space, the two-bedroom villas are family compounds with their own private show kitchen, pantry and living room. It's barefoot luxury at its best.

Guest Services

Breakfast, lunch and transfers to/from the airport are included. Enjoy bottled water, assorted soft drinks, juice and mixers, yoga, hiking, surf lessons, beach cruiser bikes and snorkeling all included. A 24-hour front desk, concierge, ATM machine, babysitting services, bridal services, dry cleaning, safe deposit box, turndown service and shuttle services are all available.

Restaurants

Wake up to fresh smoothies and coffee in the morning, indulge in snacks and cocktails in a split-level bar in the afternoon and have dinner in the palapa-shaded Terras or the barefoot-dining Parrilla on the beach. Tables are set with dishes of Nicaraguan ingredients, including organic grass-fed beef, produce grown by nearby farmers and fish caught in the neighboring village of Gigante. Dishes created by our celebrated Chef Ortiz grace our menus. Many of his dishes in high demand are Dover Sole Sashimi with Japanese Rice; Croquette and Ponzu Foam; and Homemade Pappardelle with Wild Mushrooms, Cream, Veal Cheeks and Truffle Oil.
La Mesa is a private dining room by the sea and offers Mesoamerican ingredients, a fusion of international cuisie with a Nicaraguan flavor twist. Meet our staff of Aventure Rangers who will show you the beauty of the native land of Nicaragua. Learn about our Turtle Conservation program and our efforts to re-populate endangered Sea Turtle species such as the Olive Ridley Sea Turtles and Leatherback Sea Turtles. Or ride a bike through a beautiful 12-kilometer stretch of nature trails – home to monkeys, iguanas and tropical birds. Enjoy a beach picnic, rum tasting Flor de Caña, yoga, snorkeling, surfboards, paddleboards, kayaks and water toys. Or connect with the local community by visiting the neighboring fishing village of Gigante, where many local beachside restaurants and small businesses benefit from grants and micro loans through the “Don Carlos Pellas Fund for Tourism Excellence.” And when you visit the farm where vegetables are grown for the resort you might get an invitation to a typical Nica breakfast with the farmer’s family.

Beach

Manzanillo Beach has a breathtaking shoreline that stretches for two kilometers, ideal for relaxation, watching the spectacular surfers or diving into the waters for your own ocean adventure. Mukul is within driving distance of a vast collection of beaches. The peaceful Guacalito Beach, the Majestic La Anciana Island and the dramatic Tamarindo Beach are all excellent swimming and snorkeling destinations. And if whale-watching, fishing excursions and sailing interest you; an eco-sensitive marine dock will be available in the near future.

Golf

Guacalito Golf Course is designed out of the lush rainforest and rugged ocean bluffs, a David McLay Kidd signature oceanfront 18-hole course meeting world standards never before attempted in Nicaragua. A challenge to players of all skill levels, seamlessly melds Mother Nature's contours of terrain while at the same time, preserving the delicate, breathtaking environment that makes Nicaragua's Emerald Coast special. Beautiful hardwood bridges made with fallen timber grace many holes. A special treated-water irrigation system keeps with the resort's commitment to sustainability. And the course's finishing hole, an unconventional par-3, was designed specifically to save mature trees instead of removing them.

Spa

Spa Mukul includes six experiences housed in six individual, private spa casitas, each equally harnessing a different ancient healing tradition, often using local Nicaraguan ingredients. Upon arriving to your spa casita, therapists welcome you inside the private entry garden with a footbath ritual, and other treatments based on your individual needs. Artfully designed by renowned spa consultant Angel Vezina Stewart, all six spa casitas are home to a different theme and sequence of treatment experiences available for three hours, half a day or a full day. Treatment rooms are like large luxury suites with private steam and tropical showers, changing areas and relaxation spaces with outdoor pools.
Secret Garden offers a unique massage therapy called Watsu whch is performed in a warm heated pool. It encourages complete relaxation through a combination of water and shiatsu massage. The underwater pressure-point massage helps lubricate joints, lessen edema and arthritic swelling, and increase lymphatic drainage.
Rain Forest is landscaped with lush tropical plants and offers jungle and mountain views – the perfect setting for enjoying beauty and wellness treatments that utilize the healing properties of the water and plants that come from the sea. These include a variety of hydrotherapy and aromatherapy experiences, featuring a salt water plunge pool, a waterfall Vichy Shower and a tropical monsoon multi-jet shower. Hammam is inspired by traditional Turkish and Moorish architecture, this spa casita features arched portals, high vaulted ceilings, a private grotto and accents of hand-painted ceramic tile and marble. Treatments follow a five-step detox and cleansing regiment including steam, massage, exfoliation, soaping and relaxation.

Explore the pristine jungles, admire the rising cliffs, visit the charming fishing villages and enjoy Mukul’s Emerald Coast, a blossoming area quickly becoming known around the world as The Destination of the Future. During your stay, take a short flight to Cerro Negro Volcano, where you can speed down the summit on an “ash board.” Or travel by seaplane to the remote Solentiname Islands in Lake Nicaragua to see distinctive native art. Kids Program

Kul Kids program offers children adventure and fun during their days at Mukul. Housed in first-class facilities, the complimentary program includes an open-roof palapa playroom, a movie theatre with the latest gaming systems and electronic toys, a pool and an outdoor playground. All children are professionally looked after and can participate in numerous activities designed to share the culture and traditions of Nicaragua and put the kids in contact with Mukul’s natural environment. Some program elements include making Nicaraguan-style art, collecting shells, nature hiking, releasing turtles back into their habitat and more.
