Caribbean | Windstar Cruises - Wind Star
December – March
Bridgetown, Barbados; Bequia, St. Vincent & The Grenadines; Mayreau, ST. Vincent Grenadines; St. George’s, Grenada; Kralendijk, Bonaire; Oranjestad, Aruba
Blue waters, gentle trade winds and warm sunny days are natural hallmarks of Southern Caribbean cruises, but this memorable journey offers a delicious range of options for vacationers seeking a rich variety of activities. Snorkel among rays, batfish and sea turtles in the clear waters off Bequia or dive deeper with air tanks among coral reefs and vibrant parrotfish off the remote jungle shores of Bonaire. When you work up an appetite, satiate your sweet tooth with a delicious tour of the Diamond Chocolate Factory in Grenada, where you’ll also learn about the cultivation of essential spices like cocoa, vanilla and nutmeg. Or take advantage of one of the many in-port cafés serving up regional dishes like rice and peas, slow-roasted Pernil and spicy jerk chicken. Whether you’re looking for warmer beach destinations closer to the equator or a refreshing change-up from the popular Windward Island Caribbean ports, this weeklong Windstar getaway exceeds expectations with immersive excursions, exceptional meals and personalized service that goes beyond what you’ll find on other cruise lines.
Wind Star is a sleek, 4-masted sailing yacht accommodating 148 guests. With four decks and a gross tonnage of 5,307, Wind Star feels like your own private yacht. Wind Star features wide open, teak decks, that are quite unusual for small ships. Guests will find hidden nooks for private moments giving them a feeling of being on their own private veranda.
Day 1 | Bridgetown, Barbados: Jolly old England comes to life in the city and its garrison, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Further afield, you’ll find historic sugar plantations and the fairyland magic of Harrison’s Cave.
Day 2 | Bequia, St. Vincent & The Grenadines: The only ships in port are those small enough to anchor alongside the yachts and fishing boats in Admiralty Bay. Bequia’s whaling heritage is on display in the museum in pretty Port Elizabeth, or watch the island’s famed model boat builders at work on their miniature masterpieces.
Day 3 | Mayreau, St. Vincent Grenadines: With fewer than 300 inhabitants and miles of secluded beaches, it's easy to feel as if you're on your own private island. Saline Bay is a delightful anchorage that separates the Caribbean from the Atlantic - and a perfect place to play with some of the toys from the Watersports Platform.
Day 4 | St. George’s, Grenada: Inhale the intoxicating aroma of the “Isle of Spice” as your eyes feast on what is widely claimed to be the most beautiful city in the Caribbean. Spend the day on 2-mile-long Grand Anse beach, and before you go, a taste of nutmeg ice cream is a must.
Day 5 | At Sea
Day 6 & 7 | Kralendijk, Bonaire: The ice cream colors of the stucco houses will draw your lens, as will the pink flamingos on the salt pans. But you’ll need a waterproof camera to complete the portrait since more than 400 fish species and 50 types of coral wait beneath the surface.
Day 8 | Oranjestad, Aruba: Known for having some of the best beaches in the Caribbean, this Dutch port makes it easy to just … take it easy. Walk through town to choose your favorite carved wooden door, or spend the day like the Arubans do playing dominos at a beachside table.
